بر اساس تصاویر ماهوارهای منتشرشده، در پی حملات مشترک آمریکا و اسرائیل، آتشسوزیهای گستردهای در ستاد فرماندهی نیروی دریایی جمهوری اسلامی در بندرعباس مشاهده شده است.
گزارشها حاکی است یک شناور حدود ۷۵۰ فوتی متعلق به نیروی دریایی جمهوری اسلامی در این حملات آسیب دیده است. همزمان منابع دریایی از توقف یا اختلال جدی در تردد کشتیهای تجاری از تنگه هرمز خبر میدهند.
مقامهای رسمی حکومت ایران تاکنون جزئیات بیشتری درباره میزان خسارتها منتشر نکردهاند.

It's not 1988 any more. Warfare has in fact changed a little - as demonstrated by the USN fleet standing off hundreds of miles out to sea.

مارکو روبیو، وزیر خارجه آمریکا، در روایتی جدید از علت آغاز حمله نظامی به ایران گفته است که ایالات متحده اطلاعاتی دریافت کرده بوده که اسرائیل در صدد حمله نظامی قریبالوقوع به ایران است و در پی آن، واشنگتن برآورد کرده این اقدام اسرائیل با حمله فوری ایران به نیروهای آمریکایی همراه خواهد شد و بنابراین ارتش ایالات متحده با هدف پیشگیرانه وارد عملیات نظامی علیه ایران شده است.
او همچنین به خبرنگاران گفت که «ماموریت» اصلی حملات آمریکا به ایران «نابودی توان موشکهای بالستیک آنها [ایرانیها] و توانایی ساخت آنها، و همچنین تهدیدی است که نیروی دریاییشان برای حملونقل جهانی ایجاد میکند.»
او در ادامه گفت که امیدوار است که مردم ایران بتوانند این حکومت را «سرنگون» کنند و «آیندهای جدید برای کشورشان بسازند.»
این در حالی است که رهبران اسرائیل «سرنگونی رژيم جمهوری اسلامی» را هم از اهداف اصلی حملات مشترک خود با آمریکا عنوان کردهاند.
آقای روبیو روز دوشنبه برای توضیح به نمایندگان و سناتورهای آمریکایی درباره علل آغاز جنگ با ایران به کنگره این کشور رفته است.
